Simax clear tubing is borosilicate glass stock manufactured as a straight, hollow tube for scientific and artistic lampworking. This size is 135mm long with a 5mm wall thickness, making it an excellent choice when you want a stiffer tube that holds its shape well during heating, joining, and forming. Thicker wall tubing is commonly selected for builds that need added durability, stronger seals, and more material to work with when pulling down, shaping transitions, or reinforcing connection points.
How it is used:
- Preheat the tubing slowly and evenly, then bring it up to working temperature to reduce thermal shock.
- Use the thicker wall thickness to maintain roundness and stability while making seals and welds.
- Heat and pull down sections to create smaller tubing sizes, neck-downs, and tapered transitions.
- Join to other tubing or solid stock by heating both pieces evenly, welding, and smoothing the seal line.
- Cut into shorter working lengths for repeatable parts, then fire polish the cut edge before assembly.
