Description:
This is Simax scallop tubing made with a rippled outer profile that creates a faceted, light-catching surface while still giving you the strength and consistency of precision tubing. Scallop tubing is used in lampworking when you want built-in texture without having to carve or coldwork the surface, making it a popular choice for decorative sections, accent sleeves, and blown components where the finished piece benefits from extra visual depth. Because the scalloped profile does not break cleanly like standard round tubing, it is typically worked and handled differently for cutting and shipping.
How it is used:
- Score and separate using methods appropriate for scalloped profile tubing, then fire-polish the cut ends to remove sharp edges.
- Heat slowly and evenly while rotating to prevent uneven softening across the ridges.
- Use as a decorative tube section for blowouts, sleeves, and textured components where you want the scalloped surface to remain crisp.
- Seal to compatible clear tubing with careful alignment, then anneal appropriately for the wall thickness.
