Description:
Simax 4mm x 5.4mm Rectangular Rod is clear borosilicate rod that’s been formed into a consistent rectangular profile instead of the usual round cross-section. That flat geometry is useful in lampworking when you want predictable “faces” and edges for building up clean lines, paddles, tabs, or architectural details, or when you want material that can be laid down and fused with less rolling than round rod. Rectangular rod is also a practical choice for striping, framing, and reinforcing work where you want controlled placement and a repeatable footprint as you heat, tack, and blend it into a larger assembly.
How it is used:
- Heat one face and tack it down to create straight rails, borders, and framing lines on tubing or solid work
- Pull into stringer or ribbon for striping and line work with a flatter starting profile
- Use the corners as a starting point for crisp detail, then soften and blend as needed
- Build small tabs, feet, paddles, and attachment points where a flat contact area helps stability during assembly
