Description:
Small chunky donuts are graphite donut forming tools with multiple cavity sizes, used to shape hot glass into consistent donut and ring forms. The graphite construction gives you a smooth, non-sticking surface that holds up well to repeated heating and cooling during lampworking. This style of former is ideal when you want repeatable shapes for donut beads, spacers, and ring-style components, especially when you need a thicker, more substantial profile that stays consistent across a set.
How it is used:
- Preheat the graphite near the kiln door or in a gentle flame to reduce thermal shock
- Gather and shape a small preform of molten glass on the mandrel or punty
- Press and rotate the hot glass into the chosen cavity to establish the donut profile
- Reheat and repeat light presses to refine roundness and even wall thickness
- Fire polish as needed, then anneal according to your glass type and project thickness
