Description:
Small Olives is a set of shaped cavities used to form consistent olive and barrel style glass components. This style of cavity tool is used in lampworking when you want repeatable shapes for beads, small sculptural elements, or matching sets where uniform size matters. The cavities provide a controlled form so you can round and true up hot glass quickly, reducing the amount of freehand shaping needed at the torch and helping you keep a consistent profile across multiple pieces.
How it is used:
- Heat the glass gather until it is evenly molten and the surface is smooth.
- Introduce the hot glass to the cavity and rotate with light pressure so the glass contacts the cavity walls evenly.
- Reheat as needed and repeat short forming passes rather than forcing the glass in one push.
- Use the cavity sizes to match components for pairs and sets, then finish shaping and detailing in the flame.
- Anneal the finished pieces according to the glass type and the size of the work.
