Description:
The Sphere Cutting Tool Kit is a machine accessory kit built to grind and true spheres from 1-1/4 inch to 4 inch in diameter. The kit uses cutter cups with a 1 inch-8RH threaded bore so they can mount onto horizontal lap arbors. It also includes a special splashguard to help contain water and slurry during grinding. In a glass studio, this style of sphere-cutting system is used when you need consistent, repeatable spherical forms for display pieces, paperweights, finials, or components that must be accurately rounded for fit and finish. Sphere cutting on this unit is done by holding a rough sphere with a gloved hand and grinding it against the properly sized cutter cup until the surface is trued.
How it is used:
- Mount the appropriate cutter cup onto a compatible horizontal lap arbor using the 1 inch-8RH threaded bore.
- Install the splashguard to help manage spray and slurry.
- Start the unit with appropriate coolant flow for grinding.
- Hold the rough sphere with a gloved hand and grind it on the correctly sized cutter cup until the sphere is trued.
- Switch cutter cup sizes as needed to match the sphere diameter you are producing.
