Manufacturer's Working Tips:

Red Elvis strikes in an oxidizing atmosphere, at a slightly lower temperature than most rubies. Work in a neutral to oxidizing flame.

    Darker and darker??

    Still the best red, but why does it keep getting darker? I've seen it go from a beautiful medium red, to what's now a rather dark red that can liver out if it spends too much time in the annealer. The light Elvis has remained constant, but the 'medium' is getting closer the the dark, or 'black' version.
