Description
Overview
TAG Orange Elvis Tubing is borosilicate color tubing from TAG, sold by the pound. Orange Elvis is a striking color designed to give you a wide working range, from lighter reddish-orange tones with flame striking to deeper, darker reddish-orange tones when kiln struck. It’s a versatile tubing choice for blown work, sections, and sleeving where you want a responsive orange that can be tuned by heatwork and atmosphere.
Why this color
TAG describes Orange Elvis as a blend of self-striking Red Elvis with a lightly reactive amber purple type Yellow Elvis. That mix is what makes it an easy-strike color: you can flame strike it to a lighter reddish orange, or bring it back toward clear in the flame and then kiln strike for a darker reddish-orange look. TAG also notes that layering Orange Elvis over clear can help push it toward a more true transparent orange. In the flame, oxygen-rich settings bring out brighter tones, while reduction produces softer, earthier colors due to the amber purple component.
Best uses
- Color tubing for blown forms where you want an orange that can be tuned lighter or darker with striking
- Sleeving over clear for cleaner transparency and more “true orange” color reads
- Sections and tubing prep for linework, overlays, and blown components that benefit from an easy-strike palette
- Flame atmosphere experiments to pull brighter oxy tones or softer, earthier reduction tones
