Tweezer jacks are a sturdy, spring style shaping tool that combines the control of tweezers with the broader, flatter working faces of jacks. This pair is built with ribbed handles for a secure grip and firm leverage at the bench. In lampworking and scientific glassblowing, tweezer jacks are used when you need to gently compress, straighten, and refine hot glass without leaving deep tool marks. They are especially useful for truing up tubing and rod, coaxing a gather into alignment, narrowing a neck, and cleaning up transitions before you commit to a final seal or fire polish.
Warm the tool slightly near the flame if needed so it does not chill the glass on contact. Bring the glass to a workable heat and use light, even pressure with the jaws to guide the shape. Use the tool to straighten slight bends in tubing, compress and define shoulders, or refine a neck down area while rotating the work for symmetry. Work in short touches and reheat as needed to avoid dragging or scarring the surface, then finish with flame polishing if the application requires a smooth surface.
