Vortex Blasting Stencils are single-use vinyl masking stencils designed for sandblasting crisp, sharp-edged vortex patterns onto glass. Each stencil sheet uses a water based adhesive that holds the vinyl in place during blasting but releases cleanly with a water soak, making it a practical option for production work and for clean, repeatable surface decoration. The sheet includes multiple sizes of the vortex image so you can match the scale of the pattern to small pendants, cups, tiles, or larger blown and fused forms. The stencils come with an instructional sheet, and there is a three sheet minimum purchase requirement.
How it is used:
- Clean and dry the glass surface so the stencil adhesive bonds evenly.
- Apply the stencil to the glass and press down firmly, especially along the edges of the pattern, to prevent abrasive from lifting the vinyl.
- Blast the exposed glass areas to the depth and texture you want, keeping your nozzle angle consistent for a clean edge.
- After blasting, soak the piece in water until the water based adhesive releases and the stencil begins to fall away.
- Rinse and remove any remaining vinyl, then clean the glass thoroughly before any additional coldworking, fusing, or flame polishing steps.
